R. Z. Zoot is in real life Tom Hornyak, a local Frederick, Maryland sculpture artist who considers himself neither a sculptor nor artist, but in his spare time makes little sculptures from limestone. I am not an artist by education or training, but I believe that anybody can make art if they really want to…

So why make something just to give it away? The most fun is in the making of the art- the second most fun is knowing somebody likes it and wants it. Since I have a “real” job, I don’t rely on making and selling art to live- and good thing because art galleries typically want things that hang on a wall. With a limestone sculpture you can bring it inside and put it on a shelf or you can leave it in your garden and let it weather and blend in with the flowers. In a thousand years it should pretty much still look the same. It’s low maintenance, requires no batteries, and no instructions are necessary to understand it. Just enjoy or pass it on.
