XVI. A Giraffe

This is the biggest “little” sculpture I have done so far. It wasn’t initially intended to be hidden, but I thought, “what the heck, no sense keeping it in the basement.” Did you know that a giraffe’s head is very difficult to sculpt- it has so many bumps, lumps, bulges, and funny shapes that I nearly gave up on it. The ears are big and goofy, the eyes bulge out, and what’s with those things on the top? Are they horns? But I persevered and while I am ultimately not happy with it, I am not “unhappy” either! If that makes sense. Because he’s so tall I’ll be looking for a planter or something from which he can peer out over the plants. Hopefully whoever owns the planter won’t mind.
