VI. Guitar & Manolin

The name says it all, a mandolin resting on the neck of a guitar, resting on a guitar case. I made this one with a purpose as it will be placed around the “Alive @ Five” concert area. It’s always difficult to carve an opening in a piece, especially such a small piece since the remaining stone may not be all that strong. So there was a lot of grinding and filing on this one. I contemplated how to represent strings, but I figure that the “astute” viewer can figure that part out. There were plenty of guitar inspirations in art, Picasso’s man playing a guitar comes to mind, but not so much the mandolin! I kind of winged it. I would give this one almost a 5 out of 5, but dang it the holes in the instruments aren’t perfectly centered. Always room for improvement.
