XXVI. Larry the Rhino (after Durer)

That’s a long name for a small piece. It’s a rhino, named after our former governor of Maryland, Larry Hogan. Some in his party consider him a rhino- a “Republican in Name Only” because he doesn’t always agree with Trump, but let’s not get political. He was a great governor and deserves some recognition!

The “after Durer” part refers to the famous engraver Albrecht Durer, a man who brought fine art to the masses with his printed engravings. A man who had seen a rhino described it to Durer who made an engraving that we know of today- unfortunately having never actually having seen a rhino himself, Durer might have made a few things up. Like the look of armor. And legs that look like they are in bloomers. And those weird veins on the side. And only 1 horn. And a tail like a mace. but he got the 4 legs part down solid. So hats off to Albrecht for at least trying because that’s what life is about sometimes- trying even if you have no idea what you’re doing.

A solid 4 out of 5 because there were some details that were just too small to re-create.
